TO PLAY WITH, NOT JUST TO ADMIRE !

Ebony is a tropical tree, growing mostly in Africa and India, African being black with grain features and Indian ebony's being very dark brown with more contrasting grain features. Only the best part from heartwood is used. The durability and hardness is ideal for putters. The ability to take a high polish is excellent.

One of the true tropical rosewoods, Cocobolo is a very beautiful wood, ranging from a beautiful rich dark brick red, to reddish or dark brown, with a figuring of darker irregular traces weaving through the wood. It is fine textured and oily in look and feel. The wood has excellent working characteristics and the natural oils give the wood a natural luster. Cocobolo is highly durable and strong, but, because of its scarcity and high value, it is used for its rare beauty rather than its strength or durability.

Lignum vitae occurs from southern United States to northern South America. It grows about 9 metres tall and reaches a diameter of 25 cm. The wood is very hard, heavy and brownish green in colour. It is waterproof because of its high fat content.

Purpleheart is a very tall, handsome canopy tree, averaging 120 to 150 feet in height. When freshly cut, this dense hardwood is light brown. Within minutes the surface turns astonishing bright purple. Upon prolonged exposure to sunlight, the color gradually changes to a chocolate-purple color. This beautiful wood is straight to wavy grained, fine and uniform textured and fairly smooth with a medium to high luster. Purpleheart turns smoothly, is easy to glue, takes finishes well and is highly durable.

The tulip tree is supplied from Brazil, and is also known as pinkwood and bois de rose. It has irregular grain with medium to fine texture. It is straw coloured with irregular streaks of yellow rose and pink violet. The very hard and heavy wood with low shock resistance and striking beauty is perfect for putters.

Masur Birch comes from a common European tree with a very uncommon grain and pattern. The wood comes from the European Birch tree that grows in Northern Latitudes, particularly Scandinavia. The tree we use comes from Norway high up in the mountains along the treeline. The normally lustrous wood develops the characteristic figure and markings when the tree is attacked by the larvae of a beetle which causes the cells to grow with wild and convoluted shapes giving what sometimes looks like a flame pattern. The trees are very rare and small so a special machine is required to cut them. This of course means that the veneers are rare, small and expensive. But they are very beautiful, highly figured and suitable for clubs.

Although these putters are very beautiful, they are also very playable. If you wish to personalize the putter, we can engrave your name or firm name  without extra charge. The putter is delivered with headcover included. See examples of engravings here.
